Case study

About the preparation of Luneos, the leading Polish supplier of solutions in the field of energy transformation, for the sale of electricity

6 months. That's how long it took Luneos and Enfree to build an electricity trading company from scratch. From the preparation of the concept to the sale of the first megawatt hour. In April 2022, Luneos, whose strategic partner is the Swiss investment fund Susi Partners supporting the energy transformation in Europe, hired Enfree to lead a project aimed at preparing Luneos for the sale of electricity.

It all started with an idea. The strategy of Luneos, which offers a package of solutions providing enterprises with a comprehensive energy transformation and a significant reduction in energy costs and a carbon footprint, assumed the enrichment and supplementation of the product offer with the sale of ecological electricity. In order to turn the idea into a business, Luneos invited Arkadiusz Somnicki and Adam Wlizło from Enfree to cooperate, who have extensive, several years of experience in the field of broadly understood electricity trading, including the creation and development of business areas in energy trading companies.

- The growing ecological threats and the geopolitical crisis have made the energy transformation even faster than before, says Zbigniew Prokopowicz, President of the Management Board of Luneos. - Currently, there is a race against time. The sooner we provide entrepreneurs with solutions that are conducive to the environment and generate savings, the greater the benefit for all of us. In this race, it is worth betting on the best - it is thanks to them that the ideas we create have a chance of being successfully implemented. At Luneos, we focused on cooperation with Enfree, together with whom we built an electricity trading company.

The experience of Arek and Adam, their high level of knowledge of the industry, but also the business professionalism that I particularly appreciate, meant that in six months we prepared a company fully ready to sell energy and we are already enjoying the first signed contracts.

Zbigniew Prokopowicz

CEO Luneos

The assumptions assumed the implementation of the following tasks: development of a business model and strategy for the company's operation, preparation of the company's processes (including in particular purchase and sale mechanisms), creation of a concept and implementation of products offered to its customers (including development of an energy pricing model), employment and training of employees ( managing and operating persons) and establishing cooperation with third parties necessary to conduct business (including law firms, the transmission system operator or the entity providing the market operator service).

The implementation of project tasks was divided into two stages. The first stage, conceptual, assumed the preparation of the target business model of the company, the second stage assumed the operationalization of the assigned tasks. At the conceptual stage, Enfree verified the applicability of various business concepts in the current market conditions. Both the traditional model, assuming the construction of a full-scale company, under which most processes are carried out within the organization, as well as the alternative model, assuming significant outsourcing of selected processes to other companies, were considered. The key factors taken into account when choosing the target model were ensuring the security of the processes carried out, both for the company and its clients, as well as providing Luneos clients with the highest quality services. Verification of market opportunities, taking into account the agreed priorities, resulted in the decision to choose the first model - implementation of most processes by employees of the trading company. This choice determined the scope of project tasks carried out by Enfree and new employees during the second stage - operationalization.

- Behind the success of each company there is always an idea, but also people to whom we entrust it - says Adam Wlizło from Enfree. By recruiting for key positions, the Management Board of Luneos set the direction of entrusting the trading company to the best, those with extensive experience, but also great business charisma. They will guarantee the implementation of the company's strategic goals and will ensure that green energy, meeting the highest standards of service, will supply an increasing number of Polish entrepreneurs every year. In this way, we completed the first team - we hired employees to carry out tasks, e.g. energy trading on the wholesale market, product development, risk management, preparation of analyses, customer service or sales support. This team will cooperate with the existing Luneos employees, especially traders, marketing and finance employees.

- Implementation of the tasks of the second stage required the involvement of all newly hired people, says Arkadiusz Somnicki from Enfree. Everyone had assigned tasks, goals, schedules, etc. We acted in such a way that all project tasks were carried out in accordance with the agreed project schedule - so as to be able to sell green energy in 2022. The handing over to traders in the last week of October of energy sales contracts marked with the "Luneos Energia" brand and giving the green light for sale was extremely exciting - it meant that we had achieved our goal - together with the newly hired employees of the trading company, we successfully and timely turned the idea into a real business .

- Currently, we offer our customers the sale of energy for 2023 and the following years, says Krzysztof Hrywniak, President and Managing Director at Luneos Energia. We make sure that the Luneos offer, which includes various pricing mechanisms, is competitively priced and safe for customers.

I believe that the trading company built in cooperation with Enfree is well prepared to operate on the Polish electricity market, and the conclusion of the first energy sales contracts can be treated as a proof of trust in our company, offer and team.

Krzysztof Hrywniak

CEO Luneos Energia

- From our point of view, the sale of green energy complements our current offer. All products that we offer to our customers as part of the energy transformation and the New Energy package (cogeneration, on site, off site, replacement of LED lighting, warehouses, pumps) proposed in configurations best suited to customer needs are fastened with the "green energy + balancing" buckle possible only thanks to the trading company that we created with Adam and Arek" - adds Anna Dębowska, Sales and Marketing Director at Luneos.

About cooperation with the Graal Capital Group, a leader in the fish processing industry in Central and Eastern Europe

- Out of many energy advisors, I decided to use the services offered by Enfree. I am very pleased with our cooperation, I quickly saw its positive impact on the financial results of the capital group - says Bogusław Kowalski, President of the Management Board of Graal S.A. And he adds: I admit that direct access to the current market knowledge provided by Enfree experts in a reliable and credible manner had a positive impact on the procurement processes carried out in Graal. The purchase of energy and gas has become the subject of daily attention, arousing keen interest among employees. It can be said that, together with Enfree, we have created a well-coordinated team that discusses and implements new solutions on an ongoing basis. We are currently continuing our cooperation: we are increasing our involvement in the implementation of projects that will ensure long-term price stabilization, reduce the operating costs of the group and have a positive impact on the environment.

About cooperation with the Klose Group, a manufacturer of wooden furniture

- The increase in electricity purchase prices had a significant impact on the cost of furniture production - says Marek Szpręga, CFO of the Klose Group. And he continues: A year ago, market energy prices were at the level of PLN 400 / MWh. Unfortunately, the current rates, which have long exceeded the level of PLN 1000 / MWh, devastate the finances of many companies. Every day we receive information about the financial problems of other companies, including many from the furniture industry. In order to deal with the growing crisis, I decided to cooperate with Arek Somnicki and Adam Wlizło. The gentlemen from Enfree developed an energy purchase strategy for the Klose Group for the next two years.

The Klose Group is a manufacturer of wooden furniture. From the beginning of its existence, it has been building its position on the market, increasing its capital based on the best traditions of Polish furniture, openness to the needs of users and rigorous enforcement of the highest quality principles. This is also the approach to financial matters in the Group - key managers are open to unconventional solutions that optimize costs incurred by the company, among which the cost of purchasing electricity plays a key role. Energy allows for the implementation of technological processes in three production plants of the Klose Group: in Czersk, in Nowe nad Wisłą and in Gościcin. During the year, these plants consume about 10 GWh of energy.
